replace identical objects (not symbol) that are on the same layer with another symbol

Hi!

I am working on a map, where I have 200 identical objects placed on the same layer (that are not a symbol - sadly, otherwise I would have simply replaced the symbol with another) and i wish there were a way to replace them all with another symbol.

I have looked for forums about this topic, but nothing has worked for me.

PLEASE, any advice?

Many years ago, James created and generously shared a set of scripts including one for exactly what you are after (the JET_ReplaceWithSymbol script), which has been posted earlier in our friendly forum also by others, but as they are long since withdrawn from his website I believe no one else should post it.

This John Wundes script still openly available may also do it, having the desired symbol as the topmost object, the link posted by posted by Hans-Jürgen some (fewer) years ago:
