Contributor ,
Aug 28, 2021 Aug 28, 2021

Some ...mod changed topic of my previous post and chang its meaning so i'm asking again.
Is this bug or feature?

Recently? Controls for changing rounded corners have been added to the textbox.
Is this an intentional feature or a bug?

Before, I used the shortcut "a" + doubleclick to quickly edit the textbox.
Now, instead of editing the text, I round the corners ...

And it is not a recent addition, it has been there since at least 2017.

It depends on how far you are zoomed out, how small your text box is and where you double click with the direct selection tool.

I use T as a shortcut to edit text, but even then you need to zoom in enough to click on the text.

Do you work on a PC or Mac?

On PC, we use just double-click on the textbox, and the tool changes to Type tool. "A" button is excess here.

I could not repeat the Round corners window opening with your shortcut version, just get the Round corners widget. It always gets visible when the Direct Selection tool is active. And it's all right, the textbox is a vector shape and can get rounder like any other shape.

I don't know if it's excess. I'm using direct selection, for some reason I can't recall right now. I work on Wacom, and not all tools are obvious when you use a tablet. For some reason, editing text with "A" is better than Text tool

Use the selection tool instead of the direct selection tool and it won't happen.

Anyway: it's not a bug and it's not just happened recently.

ah, yes, on Wacom some tools work a bit differently.

But, returning to the main subject, round corners widget/window is OK for a textbox.

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out. I am unable to see the rounding corner option in the text box or the controls. I would request you to share a few more details regarding this issue:

  • OS and version of Illustrator
  • Is the issue happening while working on a specific document?
  • Could you please share a sample document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • A small video demonstrating the issue could be really helpful. (Include layers and tool panel )
  • Please check and confirm there aren't any unfilled rectangle shapes in front of that text.
  • Does resetting Illustrator Preferences (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

I will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

You don't see rounded corner widgets on area text boxes after switching to the direct selection tool?

I wrote precisely how I do it. I enclosed a screenshot. What more do you need?

And  why did you change the subject of my post, now it doesn't make any sense.

Sorry, but someone changed the subject of my post causing confusion.

I'm not looking for how to turn off rounding, I'm trying to find out if it's a bug or feature.

Hey, why did you change the subject of my post? Now that doesn't make sense and there are nonsensical answers.

The shortcut A takes you to the direct selection tool.

If you want to edit the text, double click with the selection tool.

And I just tried version CC2017, where this was the same.

What has probably changed compared to your previous work: you have a very narrow textbox and keep clicking too close to the corner widgets.
