Save to SVG corrupting files

Community Expert ,

I've been having this consistent issue when I save an SVG from an existing Illustrator document, there is always a shift in the image somewhere.

Notice the bottom of the S on the right side (the SVG), there's a shift in the outline.

Here I've zoomed into show the issue. In the AI document, this is a single point on a curve, but in the SVG it's two points and there's a dramatic shift.

Elsewhere there are issues with shifting points, on this D, you can see another example:

If I use Export for Screens instead of "Save As" or "Save a copy", there is no corruption.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Hello @MicahBurke,

I appreciate you sharing the information and the file. I attempted to test the SVG export on my side using the same file, but I haven't been able to replicate the shifting issue thus far. Could you inform me if this occurs every time you export or if it happens sporadically? It would also be helpful to know if this issue is specific to this particular file or if it occurs with other documents as well.

Please provide your Illustrator version, your operating system details, and a screenshot of the SVG export settings window you are utilizing. This will assist me in aligning my setup with yours so we can explore this further with the team.

I look forward to your response.

Abhishek

Windows 10 / 11 - latest ver of Illustrator, multiple PCs.

Here's the SVG save dialog.  I've not changed anything from the defaults.

Try increasing the number of decimal places to some higher values like 6 for more precision.

The default unfortunately will give distorted vectors.

Not arguing with you but it seems strange that Adobe's default would give distortions. Plus, I don't even know what the "decimal places" means, and I doubt most others do either.

Changing to 6 decimal places definiately helps:

@Abhishek Rao  -  Why is the default 1?  Should it be something higher?

If you open the svg files in a text editor you will see the added precision describing the vectors. With a value of 1 lots of rounding is taking place.

1 compared to 6:

Greetings @MicahBurke,

I appreciate you bringing this to my attention once more. I've communicated this issue to the product team along with the information you provided, which includes the distinctions between Save As/Save a Copy and Export for Screens. Additionally, I've inquired if the default precision can be enhanced or adjusted according to the complexity of the artwork to prevent these distortions in the future.

I will update you as soon as I receive a response from the team. Thank you for your patience and for the valuable insights you shared.

Abhishek
