Saving SVG in AI only produces a file AI wont open?

Community Beginner ,

I have been creating svgs and saving them and using them successfully for  the past year.

Recently after starting to use the service cc2017 - any files I save as svg wont reopen with illustrator - regardless of save settings.    It says this svg invalid.jpg

This is just something new this past week.  Any suggestions or anyone else having similar issues. ?

Illustrator is not good at opening SVG.

SVG is not suitable as a working file. Working file should always be AI.

SVG is for export.

You could try if Inkscape is able to open your SVG. Then export EPS or PDF from there.

You are kidding right?  I should be able to test the svg - and have been able  to in the past. I dont want to work the svg - but its producing and error in every application I try to use it in.

This is something new.  I can open the ai and eps versions of the file.  I need svg - for a cutting machine.

I can work it in inkscape - but when I am creating 100 files a day it creates a huge workload to go through inkscape. .....??

Inkscape creates a workable svg using the png just fine. ...

If this really is the solution there is no reason for me to use or pay for illustrator. I am a photoshop expert.

So you can't open the SVG in your cutting software, but you can open it in Inkscape?

SVG is Inkscape's native file format. If Inkscape can open the file then the file should be OK.

Illustrator causes errors with some SVGs (even files it created itself and even valid files, so Illustrator can't be used for checking an SVG).

And maybe the cutting software causes issues as well. Have you checked that?

AI opens all the svgs I created prior to this week. I do this for testing... that is it...

The new version of illustrator has to two ways of working with svg - one is a save as dialog and one is a export dialog.

The software program for the cutting machine works great.

While I appreciate your willingness to help...  I am not sure if you know what your talking about.

For 2 years, I created svg files in cs6 illustrator. Had no issues.

Switched to cc2017. Use it for two months, and the same file settings begun  to create errors when opened in ai, and in the cutting program. This is new.

I Uninstalledon't cc 2017 illustrator, reinstalled cs6 illustrator and file settings work great.   Solved the problem.

I just want to be able to use the newer program.

Svg does not open in inkscape. Btw. Error there too.

Oh, well. Thank you. Have a good day.

And if you haven't already: try and uncheck "Responsive"
