It's hard to find the wording...
I'll have a document open, and select, say, a picture in the document and move it. Then, I'll select something else, but the bonding box will show both selected rather than one (without holding command(Mac OSX)). I deselect everything, and the picture is "selected", but isn't REALLY selected, just the selected bounding box is shown. I have to highlight the actual object that is "selected" AGAIN, and then deselect again. Is this a bug? I've experienced this in 2018 CC as well and was hoping it would be fixed with 2019... I gets kind of annoying when the bounding box doesn't match, or when I deselect to take a screen shot, the bounding box is still there.
Do I have settings set to something weird? Or is this a bug? Or something wrong with my computer? My computer was purchased last year in May, so I don't believe it to be a problem, but...
It only happens SOMETIMES, and I don't do anything different/special when it happens, it just happens occasionally and out of the blue and it's very annoying.
I tried to search the forums for a similar problem, but the way I word it didn't bring anything up... I apologize if this has been addressed before.
Thank you!

companyf,
What happens if you Ctrl/Cmd+E (toggling from GPU to CPU, you can untoggle if the issue remains)?
This is what GPU is about:
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/gpu-performance-preview-improvements.html
Graphics cards have been included in the system requirements:
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/system-requirements.html
Apart from an inadequate card, the issue can be caused by lack of driver updating, lack of proper recognition of the card by the computer, and whatnot (including rifts in the space time, moon, weather, and the fact that Illy sometimes moves in mysterious ways).
Here are a few more pages about GPU troubleshooting:

Thank you for your reply.
I didn't realize it could be a GPU or driver problem, but I should be all updated with everything..
I don't know anything about these types of things, but I think by looking at some of the links you gave me, my computer should meet all the requirements...
This is my computer's information if it helps..
macOS Mojave 10.14.2
iMac (Retina 5k 27-inch, 2017)
Processor 3.4GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 8GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Graphics Radeon Pro 570 4096 MB
I tried Ctrl/Cmd+E, but it's hard to tell if it happens because it just happens ~sometimes~. I'll update if it doesn't do it anymore, but knowing my luck and timing it'll probably not do it until I say its not and then continue to do it...
Thank you for all your help though.

companyf,
You may try to leave GPU off for a while and see whether it still occurs; I believe, GPU may cause/contribute to a kind of overload.

Here is a thread on Uservoice about it:
Selection Stuck – Adobe Illustrator Feedback
Looks like you will need some individual support for it.

Hi there,
Apart from the suggestions shared by Monika and Jacob, I would request if you can try these steps and let us know if that helps:

Thank you for your reply!
It happens on multiple files, and only SOMETIMES. It's hard to tell what the cause of it could be because it doesn't happen all the time. It appears to maybe happen on heavier files if I had to make a guess on a cause, but I have a feeling I've experience it on small files as well.
I'll try resetting the preferences and permissions. I'll come back to this thread if it continues. (It's hard to tell if it's fixed because it just happens out of no where and for no obvious reason..)
Thank you!!
