Seperate different versions

Hi, Newbie here.

Ive downloaded an ai file from Adobe stock where it has 4 different versions of what I want.

I cant work out how to separate them to pick only the one that I want.

When I open file the 4 versions are larger than the white window behind it. In fact white windows is not as large as one of the versions. Ive tried ungrouping but ungrouping only gets displayed once & nothing appears to happen anyway.

In layers there is Isolation Group > Group > Clip Group but turning them on or off either deletes the whole image.

Im sure its simple but I cant seem to work it out.

TIA

Todd

You have a Preview / Placeholder version of the image.

That is not the final vector one and you cannot edit it, it's just a Preview of the real file.

I would not "Ungroup". I'm guessing the "White Windows" you refer to are "Artboards". They have no real effect on the artwork.

Open the "Layer" panel and look at the list. It should be organized in a logical fashion (Hopefully one layer per version). Click to the right of the Layer name to select everything on that layer. Now open a new AI file and go to the "Fly-out" menu of the "Layers" panel (top right of panel). Select "Paster Remembers Layers" (this will recreate any layers that are part of the artwork on the clipboard). Now past into the new document. You should see the artwork in the center of the document. You should also see a Layer the same name as the one in your original file. Click the arrow to the left of the name to see it's content. If you're lucky it's all ready for you to work on.

If the file is not so well organized you may need to use the "Direct Selection" tool and "drag-select" diagonally across the artwork you want to use. This will fully select only that artwork without including any artwork that may be improperly grouped with it. Now perform the same "Paste Remembers Layers" routine in a new document.

I am using a preview of the image, would that make a difference?

I want to get it close to what im looking for (with watermark) to see if I want to go ahead with purchase.

you can't separate the different versions (easily). The 4 versions are one single raster image.
