Setting up white colour for printing on T-shirt?

New Here ,

I'm sorry if this has been asked before and I know it's 'basics' for the designer to know but I'm trying to understand how to use white in illustrator and sport colours for printing. I'm doing a design for a t-shirt, where the T-shirt base is red and the logo is in white. The white swatch on illustrator means no ink as I've understood from other posts, will this be an issue? I just want to make sure i artwork the file correctly for print, which i heard I'd need to convert the file into outline mode? I'm just concerned about the white colour as everything printed on is in white.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Completely depends on how it will be printed.

For direct printing on garment you just make any kind of white. It doesn't matter, since the printing houses ususally ask you to provide a PNG. And as long as it's white in the PNG, they don't care what's in the AI file.

For screen printing usually a spot color.

But seriously: pick up the phone now and ask the print house. Ask them until you have fully understood what they told you.
