Sizing vectors proportionally on different artboards

Community Beginner ,
Jul 19, 2018 Jul 19, 2018

Hi,

I just had a question about resizing vectors to proportion. So I have a vector on a 8x10 inch artboard and it is 2 inches from the bottom and centred horitzontally but I want to size this exact vector to say 20x30 artboard with the "same look" i.e. centred horizontally and proportionally same distnace from the bottom. Is there a way to do this easily without having to calculate inches etc?

Thank you!

sugarcoated,

In such a case, you can try to scale by the height, in the case mentioned 80% from 10 to 8, which will scale the width by the same proportion from 8 to 6.4; obviously, this will be very narrow as compared to the width of 12.

Or you will have to change the proportions, or rethink the artwork.

sugarcoated,

It would be simpler if the Artboards had the same proportions, such as 8x10 > 20x25 or 24x30.

The different Artboard proportions mean that the proportions of the artwork will decide how it can be fit, more specifically whether it is relatively narrow or wide.

Was this sufficiently woolly and unintelligible?

Thank you but like you said, if it was the same proportions like 4:5 then it would be easier to scale and Monica's suggestion would work well. But if it was from 4:5 to 3:2 like 8x10in to 12 x 8 inch, how could this be done?

Artboards are arbitrary and have no intrinsic relation to the content placed on them. so no, you can't scale anything and have stuff on other artboards follow suit automatically. AI simply doesn't care. If this is a regular requirement you should consider creating a script, but even that may have its caveats if you're not following a strict regime and follow clean procedures when defining your artboards and naming your items.

Draw a rectangle that has the exact size of the existing artboard. Group it with the artwork. Scale the whole thing. Convert the rectangle to an artboard.
