I frequently export SVG's from Illustrator using `save as` and SVG.
Sometimes, this results in a clean SVG and sometimes it results in a giant `<metadata><c2pa:manifest xmlns:c2pa="http://c2pa.org/manifest">` block that's easily ten times as big as the actual SVG data.
Does anyone know why this is sometimes included?
I have created two test Illustrator files that are essentially identical. When I save one, it creates the giant manifest block and when I save the other, it's what I expect — a very simple SVG.
You can download the test files at https://files.svija.love/manifest/SVG-manifest.zip
I am saving from Illustrator 28.5 on macOS.
This is a duplicate of https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/why-is-illustrator-adding-lt-c2pa-manifest-gt...
But since I have provided simple test files and have a much simpler workflow, I wanted to draw attention to the problem with a new post.
This is what the interior of the file looks like:
These are the `Save As` settings:
The test files are very simple — a single layer and a single placed image.
I have the same issue with Illustrator 27.9.
I have Exiftool installed, and if I look at the "no manifest" version of the SVG, it shows:

The example file came from one of my clients, so it looks as though it was watermarked by Adobe for having Firefly generative content at one time (though the content was since deleted).
I'll ask my client about it.
UPDATE: my client did say that he regularly uses AI for his illustrations, so mystery solved.

Hello @Andy Swift,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. The link provided did not work for me. Would you mind resharing the original AI and exported SVG files along with screenshots of the settings used by uploading them to Dropbox/Google Drive/etc. and sharing a public link here so we can check them on our end?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Anubhav
