Some shortcuts not working

Im trying to do the most basic shortcut, Hide Grid.

This is defaulted to Ctrl + '

When I press this shortcut, nothing happens.  Holding Ctrl changing from Selection to Direct Selection whilst held, and then Ctrl + ' just locks this in by changing the tool permanently.

I've gone into the Keyboard Shortcuts and restored to default, still having the issue.  I have also remapped this shortcut manually to Ctrl + ', but the issue still persists.

Any ideas?

Im using Illustrator CC 2017

    Without any actual system info nobody can tell you much. The most common culprits for this are background apps that use system-wide hotkeys (instant messengers, screenshot tools etc.) or custom input devices and their drivers. As a start, check that.

    THANK YOU.

    Just updated my Macbook Pro.

    Was starting to think about pulling hair out, and then looked up "keyboard shortcuts not working in Adobe". problem solved!!! It WAS background app related. Worked the moment I closed out the other applications. (I was working in InDesign)

    I have the same problem. I solved changing the shortcut and then reverting to the default Illustrator shortcuts.

    With this setup it should not use my custom one, weirdly it does.

    Hope it helps

    I get exactly the same problem in Adobe Illustrator CC (22.0.1) running on Windows 7.

    None of these default keyboard shortcuts work for me:

    * Hide Grid: Ctrl + "

    * Snap to Grid: Shift + Ctrl + "

    * Snap to Point: Alt + Ctrl + "

    For UK keyboards the " (double quote) symbol is located on the number 2 key (accessed by pressing Shift + 2) so Shift + Ctrl + " doesn't make sense as a shortcut anyway.

    On UK keyboards the ' symbol (single quote) is located on the same key as the @ sign but is the "lower" symbol of the two so doesn't require Shift/Ctrl/Alt to invoke - this would therefore make more sense. I tried ' in place of " in the above shortcuts (to check for Windows or Adobe keyboard "locale" issues, or just poor keyboard shortcut/mapping programming in Illustrator) but that didn't work either.

    Mylenium's suggestion of checking background apps is great advice; unfortunately, I tried shutting down all systray/background apps as well as closing all other foreground applications but this made no difference.

    Lastly, I double-checked my Windows locale settings but these are correctly set to UK timezone/region, and Keyboard is set to English (United Kingdom).

    Have you tried re-assigning those shortcuts in Edit > Keyboard shortcuts?

    Do you perhaps have your system language, keyboard locale and Illustrator locale set up differently?

    Thanks for the additional thoughts.

    >> Have you tried re-assigning those shortcuts in Edit > Keyboard shortcuts?

    I'm going to try that next, although it doesn't change the fact that something is definitely amiss if the default ones aren't working correctly (again, this may prove not to be Illustrator's fault, but I suspect it is).

    Most applications don't have locale-specific preferences/settings because they use the underlying ones from the operating system. I could only find one specific one in Illustrator which is Preferences > Hyphenation > Default Language, and mine is set to English: UK.

    https://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html seems to work for bug reporting, although whether they ever fix the bug is a whole other story. Somebody reported this bug on MacOS more than a year ago
