Some tools are missing in illustrator cs6 2017 for me

I'm trying to make many designs using illustrator that i just downloaded.

First thing, I cannot find star tool, yes I long pressed, only rectangle, ellipse and polygon were shown.

So i tried a different design without the star tool but realised I didn't have the brush tool either

Do I download these separately or what?

I haven't explored much so i don't know what else is missing.

We'll need some more information. Your title is confusing as CS6 2017 is not a version. Are you using CS6 or CC 2017? What platform Mac or Windows? What version of Mac or Windows?

I use Mac

Version: MacOS 10.13.2 (high Sierra)

Quit Illustrator. Then immediately after launching Illustrator, hold down Cmd+Option+Control+Shift. You have to be quick. I mean immediately after launching the program, hold down those keys to reset your preferences. See if that helps.
