Strokes disappear: does anybody know why this happens?

Whether it be just a stroke or 10 strokes, there's a lot of times my stroke just disappears out of thin air and there is no explanation. I think its stupid that Adobe charges a whole $50 a month when this happens on the regular and everything bugs out. I have the same issues in ae and pr. things disappear and I have to start over on the constant. Definitely not good business.

Can you please provide more information as to what you are doing when this happens, and what OS and .ai version you are on?

Your post does not provide the information to determine if this is a technical issue with a graphics card that can be solve by doing a command E to toggle out of GPU preview into CPU preview, or a software issue such as assigning a stroke at the group level and then ungrouping.

I just searched our forums for "disappearing stroke lines" and found this thread where Ton Frederiks​ solved it for another user by tagging it as a GPU / CPU issue. See if this solves your issue:

When it happens in Illustrator:

  • Does it show up when you go to View > Outline?

  • Does Undo bring it back?

That is certainly not normal behavior. Try to look for a pattern of when it's happening to you. Did you just hit a keystroke, etc.? For example, hitting the / key will set the stroke to none (if the stroke is active instead of fill).

Please describe step by step and show screenshots.

Also: which version, which system?

Are these old files or new ones?

Any third party plugins?

To which kind of object is the stroke applied?

Are those complex files? Large files?
