Hello.
I've been experiencing an issue in the latest release of Adobe Illustrator (29.8.1). After creating artwork in the centre of the canvas and inlcuding text boxes I've encountered an error where the text moves outside of the box diagonally and moves the other objects with it. If I click on the text the text box is selected, but in its original position. It's only after resizing the text box that the text itself reverts back to appearing in the box. This has been an issue before, in earlier version, but this is now moving non-text objects away from their original position. I've had to correct two artworks that have had this error already. The only trigger I can think of is when the artwork is saved under a new filename after being created - for a duplicate file as an example. Please see the screenshots below for further context.
Hi All,
Thank you for reaching out and reporting the issue. We are checking with the team about this issue and get back to you shortly with an update. For now, could you please upvote this UserVoice and add your comments?
Thank you for your patience.

Hello everyone,
The product team has asked for more details. Can you check if this happens with specific files, and if yes, share a link to a sample file after uploading it to a file-sharing service, so we can check it on our end?
Note: When sharing the file, kindly make the link public and enable the option to Save a Copy/Download (if any).
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello @cornel_hecht,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Could you share a small screen recording/screenshots of the problem, and also confirm the version of the OS/Illustrator installed, so we can better assist you?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello Anubhav,
thank you for your comment. I'm attaching a screenshot here: you can see the word "Stop" and its bounding box displayed in the bottom left (an empty box). The numbers in the top right were all assigned to the scales and have all been moved. The text in the locked layers is also shifted.

Yo tengo el mismo problema y me gustaría saber si ya hay alguna solución. Tengo guardado un archivo y al abrirlo me desordena todo. Al pinchar en un cuaro de texto me lo situa donde debería pero se sigue viendo desplazado. Gracias

I too experienced the same with artwork being displaced – 2 things I did that helped me sort the file/artboards back to original state quicker than starting all over –
1) In Preferences under General I deselected "Show 'Print Bleed' generative AI button on Bleed" not sure what this is or if it is connected to issue but I don't particularly want to use it.
2) When I click on some text within my artwork (using Group selection tool (the white arrow +) that was sitting way off to the top right area of the clipboard, it highlighted the 'empty' text box frame in the correct place on my artboard, I clicked 'align centre' (does not matter if its left centre or right alignment) then go to 'edit, undo' and the text bounced back into its correct place on my artwork/artboard... so I did this with all the items that had been displaced and although not ideal managed to salvage my artwork and meet deadline.
My rulers on each artboard are set to x0y0 top left. I save my files to desktop so don’t think it matters whether its desktop, dropbox or Cloud and I also saved a back up file copy as an Adobe Illustrator eps and outlined all fonts and seems to open up again ok.

Algunos textos vuelven a su lugar pero otros no y los objetos no vuelven. Gracias de todas formas. Tendré q empezar de nuevo. Probé muchas cosas y nada. Voy a seguir haciendo pruebas. Si hoy no consigo solucionarlo desisto y empezaré de nuevo.

If this problem is occuring globally it is likely that program corruption has occurred. Try resetting your Illustrator preferences. This will restore the program to its defaults and, hopefully fix the issue.
To reset preferences:
For Macintosh Users: The User Library folder in which Illustrator’s preferences are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that Illustrator is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N).With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the folder called “Adobe Illustrator <Version #> Settings” (earlier versions of Illustrator might just say “Adobe Illustrator”) and the file called “com.adobe.Illustrator.plist” and delete both that folder and that file. When Illustrator is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.
For Windows Users: You can try the quick way of resetting on a PC which is to hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching Illustrator and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset. There have been some recent reports that the window asking if you want to reset is not popping up but that the prefs are being reset anyway. If this works great but if it doesn’t you may have to manually delete them.
To do so:
On Windows 7 and above the preference files are hidden. To find them go to the Control Panel and open Folder Options and then click the View tab. Then select “Show hidden files and folders” or “Show hidden files, folders or drive options” in Advanced Settings. Then delete (or rename) the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator [version number]\ Settings\<Language>. Make sure that Illustrator is closed when you do this. When you relaunch the program it will create new preference files and the program will be at its default settings.
The advantage of manually deleting preference files is that after you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, you can create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

This has happened to me a few times: I save a file and later open it again. Only to discover that the entire layout is messed up. Most of the graphics aren't even on their artboards anymore. Is this a bug of some sort? I'm always updated and this is 29.8.2. Has anyone else experienced this?

This is a problem that has started happening to me this week (week commencing 13th Oct 2025). I have created multiple Illustrator files that contain multiple artboards that when reopened in Illustrator, have become a mess. I can open the artboards up in Photoshop or place in to an Indesign file and they are ok. But when I reopen in Illustrator - everything is all over the place. I removed the latest Illustrator from my Mac and have been using the Beta version instead and it is still happening. Need this sorting ASAP as the majority of my work is done this way. I have attached a recent file is someone wants to investigate. Thanks.

In a multi-artboard document, moving a guide slightly causes text and/or objects to shift out of place (sometimes even outside the artboard) after saving and reopening the file.
Version: Illustrator 29.8.2
The issue seems to happen randomly, but it often occurs right after adjusting a guide position. Non-text objects are usually stable, but sometimes they move as well.
Would love to know if anyone else experienced this issue recently.
