The operation cannot be complete because of uknown error. (!now)

In Illustrator, I am trying to export a file as a .png but every time I try it comes up with this error message "The operation cannot complete because of unknown error. (!now)" I have seen other forums where they discuss an error message similar to this, but the ending (!now) is different. I have not seen the (!now) discussed on this forum.

Has anybody else gotten this error message? If so, how can I fix it so that I am able to export? This is a file for a client, so I am kind of on a time crunch.

Is the problem just with this file or any file?

Can you try and create a simple new file with a rectangle or the like and eport that? Does it work?

On the other threads with a similar message it found that locked or hidden layers is the problem. Have you tried to unlock your layers and delete hidden ones?

I have tried deleting the hidden layers and then exporting the file but it comes back with this same error message.

Where do you save the file?

Which system, which version?

How large is the file?

How large will the exported file be? Does it work when you export a smaller file (pixel dimensions, lower resolution)?

I've tried saving the file to my google drive and locally on my hard drive.

I'm running Illustrator CC 2017 on a windows 10 system.

A 4500 x 5400 pixel artboard at 300 ppi

I'm not sure where to find the file size? I haven't tried exporting as a smaller file yet. I am currently uninstalling reinstalling.

Update:

After reinstalling it still wouldn't allow me to export the file. I tried exporting it at 72 ppi and it worked. Is there a way I can export it at 300 without the error?

if you export a png that size from illustrator at 300 ppi it will try and make a 18,750 x 22,500 px image, so it may well be the size that's a problem.

That was the problem. Thanks Doug. I didn't realize it would change the size to like that. I thought it would keep the original parameters of 4500 x 5400.

Hi sorry I am a bit lost with your answer. I am getting the same error noted above and I need to export a png at 7632x6480 pixels which is what I have set the artboard to. How can I get it to save the image at the size I need if it is resizing it to 18750 x 22500 px?

For Export As: tick 'Use Artboards' in the file browser window, and use 72 PPI in the export options.

The 18750 x 22500 px figure was specific to the user above who was trying to export a 4500 v 5400 px artboard at 300 PPI. It is not relevant to your document.
