I just did an update for Illustrator and the artboard box has a much thicker stroke/border. Any solutions to this? Its very distracting to have a thicker art board outline.

Hi @chris_4118 and everyone,
Thanks for bringing this up. I can see how the thicker artboard border after the update can be distracting while working. I'm currently checking this behavior with the product team and will share an update here as soon as I hear back from them.
Appreciate your patience in the meantime!

Hi @chris_4118 and everyone,
Thanks for your patience. I checked with the product team, and this change to the artboard border was introduced intentionally in the latest update. However, based on user feedback, the team is already exploring alternative options to make it less distracting. I'll share more updates here as soon as they become available.

I've moved your post from Creative Cloud desktop to the Illustrator forum.
Do you mean the non-printing border around the active art board or something else?

I'm having this issue too, it's so thick after the update that it's distracting me while I work.

Hi - just opened my Illustrator 2025 & the art board has a thick black outline? It wasn't there yesterday. Can I edit the thickness? Thanks

Thank you for letting us know there will be an alternative, hopefully one that allows you to simply use what was there previously. I've been an Illustrator user for 20+ yrs. The artboard line is distracting at this thickness.

Thanks for the reply. I honestly don't find the reasoning for this. I need to align elements not using the align options, to make shapes, to see if they are correctly placed inside the arboard, and the thicked border does not allow precision. This is not distracting, it's complicating my job. At least it should have a disable in the preferences.

Adobe gave the reason in UserVoice ā see the link Ton posted above. They were trying to ensure the border is visible on HiDPI displays, and are now working on a method for the rest of us as well.

Unfortunately, UserVoice is a terrible platform, and I won't be using it again - it's designed with a complete lack of UX consideration. They use 12pt font size - completely outside of W3 guidelines, and the forms are quite glitchy. I was just on there to respectfully submit a feature request to remove the new artboard line, and after taking the time to type out my "idea", the form glitched and brought me back to the beginning.
Is adobe trying to push people to Figma and the sort?

His response is irrelevant. Not all of use use a HiDPI display, nor need this change. This is an accesibility problem for some, and that must be handles with a setting that you can turn on if you want it or need it, not a global change for all. This is a terrible way of implementing changes: because one person needed it.

I find it super distracting as well. It's quite annoying.
Rather than have a dev team "explore options to make it less distracting", how about providing a setting to allow users to use the native format or remove it altogether. One person's accessibility tool, is another's distraction. This is the design equivalent to forcing people to watch a movie with captioning on - without giving them the option to turn them off.

They don't need to explore alternatives, just let people who want it the way it was have it that way.

Hi - I've noticed the artboard is drawn with a thicker line in v.29.7.1, than before. Can this be edited to be made thin again? Thanks

Hello @Matt5EAD,
Thanks for reaching out. This was introduced as part of the latest Illustrator update. Would you mind upvoting this UserVoice (https://adobe.ly/4fuWA3B) and adding your comments there? Doing this will help us prioritize this request, and you will be notified of any updates.
Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or need assistance. We'd be happy to help.

You should absolutely NOT be requesting your paying clients to waste their time to basically upvote this issue - Adobe should take responsibility and prioritize this correction on your own! It is clearly a horrible UX (or rather lack of UX) decision that should be reversed (or modified to allow for users to choose the original setting). You have enough feedback - and it's overwhelming.

Obrigado.

Hi everyone,
I have a problem in Adobe Illustrator that I couldnāt solve. There is a black border/outline showing around my artboard (screenshot attached). I donāt want this border, but I couldnāt find any setting to turn it off.
Iāve searched the forums and tried different view settings, but the black frame is still there. It doesnāt appear when exporting, but itās distracting while working on the design.
Does anyone know how to remove or disable this black border around the artboard in Illustrator?
Thanks in advance!
