When I type a word and use create outline around the word the dots or points surrounding each letter in the word do not appear. I need these points in order to re-shape each letter. Does anyone know why the dots around the letters are not appearing?

Switch to your Direct Selection tool (A), instead of your Selection tool.
Votes
Go to View menu, then select "Show Edges".
