Unable to Align Stroke with my custom brush strokes

Community Beginner ,
Jan 16, 2018 Jan 16, 2018

my custom strokes are forced to align to Center, and cannot be aligned to In/Outside

(both are greyed out as seen in image below)

Is there a way to change that?

Thanks

Brushes are only center-aligned.  Try Effect > Path > Offset Path to achieve the alignment you want.

Offset path should work fine on a closed shape. For open paths, I would build your brush like this:

So there's a no stroke/no fill rectangle double the height of the artwork.

Sorry, but the offset path doesn't work. Even changing the offset path parameters, my stroke is always in the middle of the brush. Pretty annoying since my brush is semitransparent (yellow circles and "sticks" in the figure).

(p.s. the other answer "widht profiles" is not helpful)

Thanks

If you drag a brush out of the brushes panel you will see an invisible box in the back.

Try moving the box up or down to change the brush position on the path.

Drag it back to the brushes panel to test.
