Hello,

Recently my Illustrator started acting weird, whenever I drag something (say I click a handle to drag it somewhere,) it stops draging all together. It's not just with handles, it's the dragging motion all in all, it doesn't to no work properly.

My Illustrator is up to date and I have an iMac Pro 2018.

Any help would be great, my workflow is greatly hindered by this.

Thank you!

Hi Maikii,

have you activated the GPU acceleration? Also, have you even tried to reset your preferences?

Hello Gianvitulano,

My GPU is always active, dunno if it's the same as what you're saying, but I do work with GPU Performance on, I haven't resetted my preferences.

Hi Maikii,

that’s right, let’s do the same thing. Try to reset your preferences and check if you have the same problem.

Hi there,

Sorry about the trouble. I would like to know if resetting preferences as suggested above by @gianvitulano worked for you? If not, I would request you to share a few more details like:

  • The exact version of macOS and Illustrator
  • Please check if the layer or object is not locked.
  • Are you using Magic Trackpad or Mouse, or are you using any other device?
  • Please check if dragging is working perfectly on other applications.
  • Does this happen while working on a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, driver updates, system updates, plugins, or web extensions installed recently.

Also, I would suggest you to please try booting the system into Safe Mode (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/x-productkb/global/start-safe-boot-mode-mac.html) and check how it works there. It starts your system to perform certain checks and prevent third-party software/ services from automatically loading or opening. If this doesn't help, you may try steps shared in this post (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/resolve-slow-performance-and-unexpected-behaviors-in-illu...) step by step and share your observation with us.

We will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Here too, since the last update, the cursor change to an arrow with a green plus sign, and it makes a blip error sound while draging stuff around.

Hi @Maikii. @default227330636ih6zo,

We are sorry for the trouble. The product is working hard on this, and the fix will be released with the next update.
The + sign icon while dragging the object in Illustrator only happens with the Apple Magic mouse.

I would request you all to upvote this UserVoice if not done already, and please be patient & stay tuned for the updates.

In the meantime, you may downgrade to Illustrator v26.0.3 until the fixed gets released. (This helped some users.)

Regards,

Anshul Saini
