I have had the saivng problem since I upgraded to 2022.
suddenly I have the saving problem, so then I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it's still not working. I think I cannot save files in only .ai formant.
the error box says "Illustrator tried, but could not save the file "file name .ai". Click "Learn More" to try alternate options for saving your file."
This happens with all files when I try to save in .ai format either files are included fonts or any illustration.
Please help me with that I use Adobe Illustrator for my business I need to use this ASAP.
Try to turn OFF Preferences > File Handling > Save in Background.

We are sorry for the trouble. This issue has been fixed in the latest Illustrator update, v26.2.1, released yesterday. I would request you to turn on the File handling setting after updating Illustrator and let us know how it goes.

Sorry for the late respond and missing information on my previous message, hope your holidays went well!
I tried the "file handling" and reinstalling if i remember correctly. But now after updating my computer (macOS Ventura 13.1.) and it seems the problem got solved - I'm able to save files now 🙂

What System do you use?
Where do you save, Local, Synced folder?
Is Preferences > File Handling > Save in Background On or Off?

I'm having this same issue just in the last few days. Illustrator v26.0.3. Mac Monterey OS v12.0.1. I tried copying and pasting content into a new file but no luck. Tried <shift><option><command><control> to reset preferences in Illustrator, again nothing. File handling preferences are all turned on. The only place I could save the files was to the cloud, could not save to my local drive.

Hi, for the past 2 days ive been trying to save my files as JPG and PNG and no matter what i keep doing the resolution once saved is horrible. I tried doing what you suggested - but nothing helped.
please help me, have clients waiting for their projects.

Absolutely frustrating! The fact that Adobe is a company worth a quarter trillion dollars and they have yet to fix a save related bug dating almost 4 years back. I can confirm that after trying everything it was the "save in background" causing the bug and once I removed it it worked just fine. Adobe get your stuff straight please, a lot of us count on your softwares to do our business and pay you quite handsomly for your subscriptions.

I tried to replicate this on 26.0.3 on macOS 12.1. The issue is not reproducible at my end.

Hi better way to install update is first remove older version using adobe clean tool then install new one or wait for next update if bug is present all are in notice of adobe team...regards

I have been experiencing this when saving AIC files. Yours is not an AIC file, but where are you saving it? Into your Creative Cloud folder? Into another synchronized folder?

Hey all,
My illustrator doesnt wanna save the file into ai. ..
I have tried every steps that Adobe suggested, (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/troubleshoot-file-issues.html) but none of them worked.
I have restarted the program and also my laptop.
Does anyone have the same issue?
