Previously, I was able to save my files that contained gradient color freeform to a pdf in Illustrator. I need to save it to a vector pdf, but when I save it, I do not have a thumbnail and the file is blank unless I open it with Acrobat. If I have an single color outline, that saves to the document, but no color gradient. I was able to save files with color freeform gradient before.
I have an Apple Mac Studio.
I now see that the pdf in Illustrator now indicates that it is an Adobe pdf instead of a vector pdf. Has something changed?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

What do you mean by an Adobe pdf versus vector pdf, and how are you determining this?
To edit after saving, then make sure to check this setting when saving.

I do have the box checked as indicated above.
The pull down menu used to just say pdf, now it states Adobe pdf. So, I was concerned that they made it a non-vector pdf somehow.

Recent versions of Mac OS have a problem with showing freeform gradients in Apple Preview.
Make a copy of yoUr document and rasterize the freeform gradient at a sufficient resolution (300 ppi) before saving as PDF.

Thank you. But the thumbnail and the pdf in Preview is shows. That does answer my question if there was something that changed. Thank you!

Looking forward to your response.
