The text is still text?

Try and make a compound shape out of the text and the graphic.

If that doesn't work then you will need to either

- expand the text and then make a compound path

or

- apply the text as one clipping mask and the graphic as another one.

Or Group the text and circles

Select the group and the image

Click Make mask in the Transparency panel

Hi Ton, misspelt your name before, that actually didn't work 😖 do you think it's because the image I'm using for the mask is a jpg?

It should not matter what kind of image it is.

What did not work?

Did you check/uncheck the options in the Transparency panel like Clip and Invert mask>

Were your text and circles White?

Can you share the file?

You can embed an Illustrator file (sort of...).

Save the Illustrator file as PDF with "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" checked (the default).

If you edit your post (click the 3 dots...) you will notice a very small icon below the contents of your post.

Put on your glasses and click the chain icon to embed the PDF.

If someone opens the embedded pdf in Illustrator, they will get the original Illustrator file.

I don't know why it doesn'tn accept pdf, maybe something changed. (you could try other sharing options like WeTransfer, CC filesharing, Dropbox, Google Transfer)

But to come back to your problem, did you first undo the clipping mask, group the white objects, and select both the jpeg and the group?
