So i've been doing this for years on a weekly basis. I get graphs and figures in excel from customers that i have to turn into something decent to publish in a magazine. I've always just copy - pasted the whole figure into illustrator and it would convert everything to vectors so i'd be able to quite easily replace font - color - size - etc.
But now i switched pc's and suddenly when i copy - paste it takes some of my shapes and doesnt convert them to vector outlines. instead it sees all of them as embedded really pixelly images.... I could replace them one by one but i really hope someone on here knows what could possible be making the difference.
Is there any way of changing the way it pastes into?
Thanks in advance
Excel has changed from version to version and also there are differences between PC and Mac OS. Some graphs work, some don't. If there is only slightly 3D look in an Excel graph, it usually doesn't convert to a vector graphic.
You could try and export it as a PDF from Excel to see if that works better, but that's about it.

I am using a Mac and I have this problem too. Exporting as a pdf doesn't help. I really miss being able to use excel to create charts for manuscripts. Given all the blurred symbols its pretty useless for me.
