After updates in Illustrator became so slow that it is actually no longer usable. Even after reinstalling. Some older versions are also very slow.
I have a very fast computer with a lot of memory. What can be going on?

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/
p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Do you have font management installed?
Is a printer set up in Windows? If you do not have one, please try and set it to a PDF printer
Do you have any third party plugins installed in Illustrator?

I have no font management installed.
I sometimes use the printer in Windows to PDF and sometimes to a printer. But that can have nothing to do with the extremely slow illustrator (who used to do it before).
I have not installed any plugins.

In the meantime, I read in this community that others also suffer from the slow illustrator. Moreover, Illustrator is full of bugs (which I have been taking for years ....). I'm going to try another program, outside of Adobe.
And thanks tot you for your help.

Hi Leonore,
We apologize for the bad experience. We'll try our best to investigate the issue. Would you mind telling us the version of Illustrator installed on your machine? Are you connected to any external monitor?
Please try to reset Illustrator's preferences as described in this article (https://adobe.ly/4n0UdZ4). Also, try updating the GPU drivers (https://adobe.ly/3VgB7SD) and setting the High-Performance Graphics preference under Windows Settings (https://adobe.ly/3UL5JLV) for Illustrator and sharing your observations.
We are happy to help you.
Thanks,
Harshika

My criticism of Illustrator is not intended personally.
I sometimes connect an external screen to the PC. I will try if that makes a difference.
And the problem with illustrator has been for years that when I provide a simple graph with changed data, Illustrator places all kinds of lines unsolicited, the outer in the graph horizontally and vertically, puts extra in the graph that I don't want. I always remove it manually. But ok, that wasn't my question about the slowness ...
I will try again without an external screen and also with elimination of the GPU. I will then report about the effect.
And I try your other advices.
Thank you!
