Hi,
I am trying to get rid of these red dots and lines (see the 3 separate images provided) on my illustrator page but I cannot seem to do it. And I am not sure why these appear- I have not intentionally put them there, they seem to appear after I do something but I am not sure what. How do I prevent this from happening?

they denote slices (for web exporting). you define them with the slice tool (the scalpel in the tool panel).
go to View > hide Slices to hide them, or select them with the slice tool and delete.

I've tried this and it didn't work.
I had a vector that when I pressed the select tool, the red plus sign came up and when I tried to hide slices, it didn't work

Please show us the complete workspace.
The red plus sign indicates overset text, that is an area text object which is too small for the text it contains.
Which tool exactly are you selecting? There also is a slice select tool.
Did you inherit the file from someone else?

So I tried to pressed the text tool and somehow i couldn't type into it. I deselected it and it left the red marks on image 2.
I did not inherit the file from anybody. It is a new document
