please help I am a beginner and don't know what I did but these red lines just appeared out of nowhere and I haven't a clue what I did to make them appear.

Those are slices.

Object > Slice > Delete all.

What you probably did you used the slide tool,

This was a popular tool to create slides for web years ago, and as ACP says, go to the menu Objet/Slide?Delete All

with this you will not affect the image you will just delete the slides
