WHEN EXPORTING HYPHEN CHANGES TO UNDERSCORE

When I export to PNG 'USE ARTBOARDS' ticked and 'SUFFIX' ticked (or not) it will randomly change the normal hyphen used to add the artboard number to an underscore.

FILENAME-02.png

If I want to update these PNGs, which I do dozen times a day, it will sometimes change to underscords, even after asking 'DO YOU WANT TO REPLACE - FILENAME-01.png, FILENAME-02.png?' and I select yes and it then produces duplicates, but using an underscore.

I have noticed if you alter the artboard names, in the artboard window or drag a copy of any of them, it will effect this, EVEN if you go back and rename the boards properly 01, 02, 03 - opposed to the copy name of 01 copy...

It used to work flawlessly. And this causes me so much extra work. When we drag and drop PNGs into our archive, it won't replace the existing if there is an underscore so we have multiple versions of updated, not updated art... it's truly frustrating and counterproductive.

Is there anyway this can be fixed? - Potentially a setting in the ARTBOARDS menu, PREFERENCES... something to permanantly lock in the hypen so it will replace and duplicate... I can't explain how desperate we are for this fix.

Did you already try rebooting the computer?

Resetting the preferences (which will erase all your settings, but it's currectly erratic anyway)?

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. Oh yes, this has been going on for six months or so. Reset preferences many times and reboot everyday.

I have noticed... When you open a fresh doc, the artboards are named.... "Artboard 1" and look like that in sequence of 2, 3, 4, etc, depending on how many you have. - If you take an artboard and drag a copy next to itself, it will title it in the artboards menu 'Artboard 1 copy' and if you rename it 'Artboard 2' it does not treat it the same as if you opened a fresh document with 2 artboards. - Dragging copies of artboards with the arboard tool, renaming artboards, etc... this has some sort of effect on the export titling preferences.

It didn't used to be this way. We set up an entire archive before this changed one day in an update. And since then, it's been a nightmare. Not only for me, but multiple users on multiple systems. All current and up to date.

Would love a hardcoded fix for this. A preference box to tick or something... Please, throw us a bone AI team...

Still having the issue. It comes and goes and what I've gathered is that when dragging copies of the artboard in an existing doc will have an affect on the hyphen vs underscore. Copies seem to generate underscores. Original artboards generate hyphens. Not 100% sure about this, but my best educated guess. Would be so much better if they were consistant. It's a huge time vortex having to rename so many files. - What kills me is in earlier version of AI, this worked flawlessly and only with updates did it change, which really threw off our archive of literally thousands of files.
