When saving an Illustrator 2020 file, the save asterisk on the filename doesn't go away

Normally, the save file asterisk goes away once the file has been saved to indicate that the file has been saved. Since I've been using Illustrator 2020, that save asterisk doesn't go away. So when I SAVE the file ... and then close the file, I am asked to SAVE the file again.

This is annoying and confusing and will eventually lead to errors as I've become used to the idea that once the asterisk is gone, the file is saved and it can be closed, duplicated, edited, etc.

Anyone else experience this issue and have a solution?

I work off a network along side other emplyees so can't be saving files locally. Also, I did save files locally to my desktop, and the asterisk is still present upon a successful save. Has the save file asterisk been repurposed?

Hi Nancy, thank you for your response, however, I don't follow.

What are you suggesting?

Thank you.

Nothing was suggested.  I simply moved this question to Illustrator where it belongs.  Get Started is for questions about installation.

I always save files to my local hard drive first and then move / copy to networked or cloud drives later.

Well, the link in the Adobe Creative pop-up app sent me here so that's where I posted my question. The user experience is not the best. Forgive me for posting in the wrong area. Thank you for moving to where it belongs.

I won't be saving files locally and then moving to network drive. That's an added step and not the solution to this issue that wasn't present in previous versions. When working on 3+ GB files, who has time to wait for files to transfer to a drive after you've already waited for the file to save.

Looks like this problem (and you can add your vote and comments there):

What happens if you turn off Preferences > File Handling & Clipboard > Save in Background?
