Why does Illustrator default to font Myriad Pro?

Dear Adobe Illustrator:

For the love of God, please do the world a favor and substitute the default Myriad Pro to a typeface that has variations, such as:

1. Light

2. Regular

3. Italic

4. Bold

5. Block

Extremely frustrating to mock something up on Illustrator and then go to create BASIC hierarchy with the font....and instead a quick select and change.....I need to scroll and find a different font.

If you're products are catered for designers and creatives, WOULDN'T IT MAKE SENSE to make this as a default option, instead of a singular font with no options. I just don't understand what the point of placing a font with NO variations accomplish. This is basic, common sense stuff.

Come on guys, don't let Sketch take the lead. A little research, user testing, and needs analysis goes a long way.........

1. Myriad Pro has a multitude of styles. You just need to get them from Typekit.

2. You can configure the default font to whatever you want.

3. You will never find a default font that everybody likes.

But why aren't the different weights of Myriad Pro available as a default option?

I have NO problem with Myriad Pro, it's fine and dandy. The PROBLEM is that there is only one weight available, so if I want to make a simply mock up and establish hierarchy...it's not available to me.

I understand I can reconfigure this....but why wouldn't it be available from the beginning?

Because people have complained that applications dump a lot of fonts on their computer when installing?

Because some people really don't like Myriad?

Because of copyright issues?

I don't know - just choose one or all of them.

The way Illustrator works, some font has to be the default one.

It has  been Myriad for a long time, changing this only causes one extra detail that has to taken care of during development.

People have also complained about advertising all the Cloud stuff you can now use, so it doesn't get promoted that hard anymore and you need to dig for all the options yourself.

As Monika mentioned there could be a number of reasons why variants of Myriad Pro are not available as a default option. But still, if you feel that it could be a useful thing for everyone, please raise a feature request here at our Adobe Illustrator Feedback form. This is the best way of communicating with the Engineering and Product Management teams regarding issues and suggestions so they can be implemented in future releases.
