Why does it seem that some functions are not available in my version of Illustrator?

Hi, I'm starting with Illustrator and I'm following the tutorial video's.
Now I need to use the reshape tool to reshape a line, but it seems that some functions are not active in my version. I simply can't select the 'reshape' tool. It is not shown on the left and I need to unfold the left menu to find the 'reshape tool', but then I can't select it. Nothing is happening. Also I see many other options in dark grey, can't be selected either.
Am I doing something wrong or am I just plain stupid I can't seem to get this working??

Okay I found the cause of the problem:
Apparently you need to select the ADVANCED menu....
My menu was set on 'standard'.
That is not told in the tutorial videos...

Thank you. I'm not an English native and my version is not in English but I found it.
I can't seem to get any tool options in to my own toolbar. Things are just not available.
I have enclosed a screenshot.
