Why is my Canvas size larger than my artboard size?

I have set up AI files at 270 x 40 and 72 dpi.

I save the file as a png

When I check the image size (Image --> Image Size)

My document is now 958 x 205 at 72 dpi.

I have not changed anything manually - not the image size nor the canvas size.

WHAT IS HAPPENING?!

I did find a discussion where this is happening with photoshop as well... It was good for reference.

Why is my canvas size larger than my artboard?

Can anyone help me resolve this problem with AI and ID if possible?

Use artboards checkbox is in the first dialog box where you input the name.

But your issue is caused by exporting at 300 ppi. You need to export at 72 ppi

Did you check "Use artboards"?

Which resolution of PNG did you export?

I exported 300ppi and came out two or three times the size...

Where do I check "use artboards"?
