Will changing name of HD break all my Ai file links?

I keep an archive of over 100 completed work projects on an external drive with each project folder containing multiple different Ai files that contain many linked images.

I need to rename the external drive, but will this break all the image links in the Ai files?

If so, what's the best way of approaching this without having to individually open and relink every single Ai file on the drive after i've renamed it?

Are all the linked files for each project in the same project folder as the file? Or are they scattered around?

For any one Ai file most of the links would be in a 'Links' folder inside the same project folder as the Ai file but i often pull in images from differet folders too, so a bit of a mix unfortunately.

Eberything that is in the Links folder inside the project folder should not give you issues. For the others, there is no solution. I'm not sure if there are scripts that tackle the issue.
