Adobe illustrator keeps crashing when a open a file, but what's more strange is that it's one particular file that it starts to open then crashes and closes down the app. I have updated my software, checked for updates, duplicated the file, and nothing seems to be working. I am working on some artwork for clients so this is very important for me to get access to!

unfortunately the steps you have sent seem more aligned to desktop version of illustrator and I currently use iPad. Have you got any info on how to support on my device rather then generally??

Was the file created or edited using the desktop version of Illustrator? If so I wonder if features or effects not supported in the iPad version were baked into the artwork. The same might go for live effects generated by third party plugins.

Hi, the artwork at all its contents were created on iPad unfortunately so don't think that could be a reason

Where were you saving the Illustrator file (Adobe's cloud storage, Dropbox or an iCloud folder)? If you have access to a desktop computer (it doesn't matter if it's a Mac or Windows PC) you might be able to log into your Creative Cloud account, download the file locally on that computer and even open the Illustrator file on that computer. If you have a full CC membership you can install CC apps on up to two computers as well as a mobile device like an iPad. For the two computers limit I don't think both can be plugged into the same network; it's more of an arrangement to enable use on something like a work desktop computer and then something else like a portable notebook. Anyway, I would recommend downloading the file on another computer and opening the Illustrator file on that other computer to make sure the document is not corrupted. If the file opens successfully on another computer it will be easier to troubleshoot the elements in the file that could be making your iPad crash.

Hi,
thanks that helped and it worked I can open it on the computer through the illustrator app. The file doesn't seem corrupted as I was able to work on it and download it. However, I prefer to edit on my iPad so it still begs the question as to why my iPad won't open that one specific file but will open the rest...they are saved in Adobe cloud storage

What exactly is in the file? We are interested in the types of objects - 3D, effects, etc.
How large is the file?

That might just be too much. Has that file been created on the iPad? Probably not with the effects in it, no?
