Top 5 Touch Gestures in Illustrator on iPad

Touch gestures can not only help in saving precious time and improve productivity while you work on your project, but it also makes the creative experience really intuitive.


Here are the top five touch gestures available in Illustrator on the iPad:







2-finger tap

Undo – Utilizing the touch interface of the iPad, the simplest touch gesture like a 2-finger tap on the screen is used to perform basic but essential action, undo a step.



3-finger tap

Redo – Similar to Undo, a 3-finger tap on the screen can redo the undone step.

Double-tap on a selected object

Edit points – Simply double-tap on any selected object to edit the points.



Drag to scrub values in fields

Scrub – Changing the values in any field made easy, simply click on the field and drag to scrub the values both ways.

Use 2-finger drag to pan

Pan canvas – Common yet intuitive, use 2-finger drag to pan the canvas and pinch to zoom.


Illustrator on the iPad comes with a wide range of touch shortcuts and gestures. Check this link for the comprehensive list. You can access the list of gestures within the app itself by simply clicking the Help icon > View > Gestures.


In addition to the touch gestures, you can also connect a keyboard to your iPad and use the keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator on the iPad.

In order to view the keyboard shortcuts, do one of the following:

  • From the Home screen, go to App settings > Help > Keyboard shortcuts.
  • From the workspace, go to Help > View keyboard shortcuts.
