Pantone Mismatch

Hi guys,

I'm fairly new to Ai, I'm working with Illustrator CC and my document color mode is CMYK.

For the past month, I have used the Pantone 2767 UP (in the Color Bridge Uncoated library) in different artwork, saved them in Ai and PNG worked fantastic.

Few days ago, I was applying the same color to a new logo and to my surprise I ended up with a different shade.

Due to errors with Adobe Creative Cloud I had to reinstall several times Illustrator but apart from that it’s the same computer, same files, I haven’t changed anything.

Just to double check I opened my previous artwork, the color is the same PMS 2767 UP but when I save it as PNG or JPEG it comes up with the lighter shade not the blue that I have on all my previous work.

I even tried on a new blank artboard I still have that light blue.

I really don't understand, hope someone here will be able to help me.

Cheers,

Jen

    Hi jeniferh75833265

    Just to be clear...

Pantone is a colour reproduction/matching system used in printing alongside the CMYK colour range, typically as a spot colour.

PNG and JPEG are a digital format that use the RGB colour system which is not the same thing as Pantone.

If somehow you have been managing to keep that Pantone colour in RGB format previously then you are very lucky.

You need to find and use the RGB version of that colour in Illustrator.

I agree with Ton Frederiks: something has changed in your colour settings or perhaps a recent update has made the Pantone colour what it should have always been and converted it to RGB for PNG, JPEG etc...

Unfortunately if you do not give Illustrator the exact hex code or RGB value when converting from CMYK it will do it for you... Resulting in the same trouble you are currently experiencing.

There are ultimately two options to take from this point:

However to ensure colours aren't altered always make sure you work in the correct colour mode/space to begin with and that the document is set up correctly. This will avoid Illustrator trying to automatically correct colour profiles etc when doing a save for web...etc.

Best wishes and hoping this helps,

    EW

When you work with CMYK documents and export to PNG, the colors get converted to RGB.

I guess something has changed in your Color settings.

The lighter color is what I get when I choose Pantone 2767 UP from the library, so that seems correct to me.

Is there any difference in CMYK values between your older documents and new ones?
