Question

possibility to save tool options?

hi everyone!

Everytime I use Illustrator I have to change every tool to work the way I want (for example; the size of the eraser, making it pressure sensitive etc etc)

and when I quit for the day I have to do it all over again the next day!

What a drag!!! all the free time I would have! I could learn to play the chello or knit myself a scarf.

thank you all for help

Regarding your other question (saving tool options like eraser settings and the like): No, currently you cannot save presets as you can do in some other applications.

A bit unsatisfactory.

it does seem to save some settings it seems when I save my workspace, but not all...

Well, I was thinking of real tool presets (like in Photoshop, for example). With the ability to create virtually an unlimited number of different tool presets.

Hi nannekel92296994,

If you follow srishtib8795206’s link to User Voice, you will see that a fix should be in the next update.

Well, I have been working with custom workspaces for years and this default toolbar was made in my custom workspace. I have never needed to manually save a custom workspace. I just select the workspace and the way I configure it is how it stays . It is interesting to note that my palettes are unaffected by this change issue in my custom workspace. How I group my palettes stay unless I change them. However, with my tools, if I set up the toolbar as I like with  my tools in a certain order, they will mysteriously group themselves together. It is ONLY since my recent upgrade to 2019 and it's driving me INSANE...my eyes are starting to twitch.

Hi there,

We are extremely sorry to hear about this. Please report this issue here: New Customizable Toolbar need a way to Lock – Adobe Illustrator Feedback

This is the best way of communicating with the Engineering and Product Management teams regarding issues and suggestions so they can be implemented in future releases.

Regards,

Srishti

hi Srishti, it wasn't about the wandering toolbar but about saving particular presets in the tools (like the eraser size)

I have discovered since upgrading to Illustrator 2019 (OS 10.12.6) that the tools are WHACK. First, the Illustrator Gods moved the tools all around in the default standard tool bar, so that irritated me. Then I realized that I could custom make my own toolbar, cool...so I did that. But what have noticed is that the program will move the tools around and group them without my consent...I feel very violated. For example, The select and direct select tools, I llke them at the top of my tool bar, select on the left, direct select on the right. I set my custom tool bar...turn my back for 2 seconds...and they are canoodling in the same tool box!!!!!! MOST ANNOYING.

If anyone has a solution i'd be thrilled, as you can see I am somewhat picky. My gut feeling is that this is a weird bug but maybe I am doing something wrong.  That is maybe probable....

Have you saved your Workspace after editing your preferences?

Window > Workspace > New Workspace ...

hi Eric, thanks! I re-saved my workspace and it looks like its remembering some presets (like the eraser settings) but not all (not for example the tolerance of the magic wand, I always set it to 1 instead of 20) but its better then nothing!

Hi,

Can you specify the version of your Operating system and software?

Can you confirm if you have tried to save your workspace after setting up your preferences and before closing illustrator?
