system requirements for using Ai; GPU: OpenGL 4.x

Explorer ,
Jan 06, 2020 Jan 06, 2020

My GPU is Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family.

I am unable to download Ai; it says i need to upgrade my OS.

So from the given list of minimm requirements, it says the GPU should be opengl 4.x.

What is opengl 4.x? is it better or equal to  Intel(R) HD Graphics Family. Is  Intel(R) HD Graphics Family ok for downloading Ai?

regards

Thanks  for your response
Operating System: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

The minimum requirements' list says OS should be windows 7 or 10. So my laptop came with windows 8.1 pro preinstalled with key ebedded so I hope Ai supports windows 8.1.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I am afraid to say that Windows 8.1 is not compatible with Illustrator so you will need to either use Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit) with Service Pack 1 or Windows 10* (64-bit). For more information on minimum system requirement, you can refer to this help article:

I understand how frustrating it could be, it's just that to take advantage of the continued developments in hardware and software, Creative Cloud 2019 and 2020 apps do not support some older OS versions. Now, answer to your first question, OpenGL 4.x means your computer must support OpenGL version 4.0 or greater.

Yes, I'd recommend a dedicated graphics card over the integrated card. If I talk about the Integrated Intel(R) HD Graphics cards, yes some of them are supported for GPU performance. Please find the list of supported Intel(R) Graphics cards:

  • Intel HD Graphics 4600 Series
  • Intel HD Graphics 5000 Series
  • Intel Iris Graphics 5000 Series
  • Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5000 Series
  • Intel HD Graphics 6000 Series
  • Intel Iris Graphics 6000 Series

Note: Graphic Card compatibility is only for one feature that is GPU performance. Apart from that, the application compatibility depends on the Operating System and its specification including RAM, Processor and available hard disk space.
