3D Interactive Product Display

New Here ,

I would like to import a 3D drawing from Autocad for a client. I need to be able to rotate the 3D object and attach buttons to the drawing enabling a "mouse over" feature that will show a description of the parts of the drawing I "mouse over".  I've seen InDesign used for creating buttons and a "mouse over" description action, but what product can i use for the 3D drawing since i found out that both Illustrator and InDesign do not accept Autocad .dwg files. Or could i be wrong about the extensions they accept and don't accept.

Please Help.

Thanks

And what is your proposed output for this?

Thanks for the question Bob.

I've developed a Standard Work document and Standard Operating Procedures using both Excel, and Word Documents in Sharepoint. As a final document i would like to attach this 3D Drawing (If possible) using an Adobe Product. I don't think using a .pdf will allow the interactivity i want to display.

Thanks

I can't think of any format that InDesign could save that would save 3D and interactivity together.

I agree with Steve. I think you need to look elsewhere.

Perhaps Illustrator?? If not i'll have to settle for InDesign using a 2D Photo with buttons activated by "mouse rollover" displaying a short caption of each 'part' I want defined. I am displaying an Engine/Pump assembly.

Your not going to be able to rotate it in 3D space within InDesign. You can save a 3D drawing as a 2D file and add buttons in InDesign to indicate different parts though. You might want to check out Adobe Dimensions which allows you to work with 3D objects in 3D space. But if you're trying to interact with the 3D object with buttons, it's not going to happen in InDesign.

Thanks Chad, I took a look at Adobe Dimension earlier today and it looked promising. If i can't make it happen there, i"ll just go 2D with buttons from InDesign and just show different 2D Views of the Item as you suggested.

Thanks to Everyone for your help and suggestions.
