Question

Acrobat pro accessibility reports Alt text missing, no matter how I enter it into InDesign document

Hi There,

I've tried the following methods to define Alt text for my images, tables etc. and none of them results into a positive report in Acrobat Pro accessibility check:

1- Add Alt text attribute from structure panel

2- Using Object export options (both by Manually entering and by feeding it using XMP)

No matter what, I always get the missing alt text error in Acrobat. (While the Alt text is visible on mouse hover)

Of course I can do it in Acrobat but it's counter-productive since by each new expert, the tags are overwritten with null and have to be re-entered in Acrobat.

Please let me know how is the best way to do this?

Thanks,
Kasra

I don't have InDesign CS6 installed.

With InDesign CC 2018, it passes Acrobat's accessibility check if I select the table frame, and choose Object > Export Options > Alt Text > Custom and enter custom alt text.

You must make sure to check Create Tagged PDF when choosing File > Export > PDF (Print) in the General panel of the Export Adobe PDF dialog box.

A little more testing: The Alt text on the Table doesn't show up, but it also doesn't trigger the Full Check as an error.

But Alt text applied with Object Export Options > Alt Text > Custom does work for images. Again no error with Full Check.

Here are pictures of my results:

(1) The Alt text applied to the picture

(2) The tagged picture in Acrobat:

(3) A portion of the Accessibility Check in Acrobat:

You have to add a Convert to Heading command in the table. That's why the Headers failed.

Thanks for the step-by-step instructions. I'm doing the same and still got the fail report
