Adding Audio File to InDesign Presentation

New Here ,
Jan 11, 2020 Jan 11, 2020

I've created an animated presentation in InDesign, and I've added a voice over to it, which I've set to play as soon as file is opened. When I export the file as an Interactive PDF, the voiceover doesn't automatically start - you have to click on play button, and by the time you realise this, the presentation is half over.

Can anyone help - THANK YOU!

Use InDesign's Publish Online, FXLePub or in5 -- not Interactive PDF.

I did publish the indesign file online but although i set it to play audio automatically on file opening, instead you had to click on a play button which appeared. The animation played automatically but not the audio. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Matthew

I suggest you have a look at in5 -- https://ajarproductions.com/pages/products/in5/?ref=footer

That is a horrible practice for anything on the web. Some browsers won't even allow it so check your browser settings.

Hi

If you have Acrobat, you can set the sound to play when the page opens. In either Page Thumbnails or Organize Pages, choose Page Properties.

  • Tab: Actions
  • Trigger: Page Open
  • Action: Play a Sound
  • Add: Browse to your sound file and add it so it shows in the Actions box below

The OP is using Publish Online which indicates the need to show this in a browser. The chances of getting audio or video to work that way is practically zero.

Okay, just backed up to earlier messages (this new forum sucks) and I see the PDF mention. I still can't recommend this since there's no way to control the reader app.

There is also no way to control the user, Bob — when a sound plays automatically, I immediately mute my sound.

The issue with PDF is that there's no assurance the audio will play at all. There is almost no upside to this project that I can come up with.

How are you adding animations to a PDF? They are not supported except by using a SWF file which horribly outdated and simply won't play in most devices.
