I have placed word file with autoflow thru 300 pages in an .indd. I realize that a few pages in the middle have to have 3 columns. I need to know How I can go from a page that has one column to multiple pages that have 3 columns and then back to one column again.

For that you need some preparation before placing the contents.

1. A document with Primary Textframe option enabled.

2. A master B that has a primary text frame with 3 columns.

After flowing the text in apply the master B to the pages where you want to see the 3 columns.

Uwe

Hi Matthew:

Ideally you designed your document using primary text frames so that you are ready for a layout change like this. Did you? If so, follow Uwe's directions, above.

If not, you will have a single, 1-column frame on those pages. You can select the frame on each of those pages and choose Object > Text Frame Options > General and set the number of columns to 3. Repeat for each page that needs to be three columns.
