Huzzah! I finally got the 18.3 update today, and lo and behold; when I clicked on one of the InDesign layout files I worked on yesterday (after the MacOS verified the updated InDesign app) a Finder preview appeared, clear as day! Thanks Adobe!
YES!!! The fix is here! update took care of the problem. Thank you Adobe for listening to your designers needs.

It's definately a Adobe issue, ever since the 18.1 update. I've had Adobe remote in 4 times, delete every adobe app file, library, file, all my old versions of software so completely wipe Adobe off my mac and start from scratch. Still happens, updated to Ventura, still happens. Between this and losing Pantone colors, i'm starting to miss Quark.

Unfortunately, society has lower expectations to mediocracy these days.

I feel ya. Been there. I'm still on Monterrey. Waiting because of things like this. Good Luck

Unfortunately, I also do not have any time to continue testing this issue. It's annoying but luckily it is not a serious issue with the performance of InDesign and execution of InDesign projects. We can only hope that future verions of InDesign and/or MacOS this issue will be rectified!

The mythical 18.2 release discussed in previous posts must have never been rolled out in my underserved area...Chicago.
For the mods telling me it was released, I checked daily.
Alas, I just installed 18.2.1 and the problem still exists.
A new document with text and photo yields the same "Preview not saved."
We were promised follow-ups.

Finally got the new release 18.2.1 and..............problem still exists!

It's ridiculous!... Adobe has the key to fix it... because if you point to 2 indesign jobs at the same time you can see the preview... that doesn't give them a clue...?

I can also confirm that whenever I add type to any of my InDesign documents, a preview in the Finder (MacOS) doesn't appear. The preview appears in Bridge, as well as on InDesign's Home screen; whether or not there is any type in the document. Removing type from an existing document, then saving it seems to allow the preview to show up.

I am having the same problem suddenly out of the blue as others have said. I can no longer see previews of ID files created 2019 to current (not exactly sure of date, but seems like 2018 and older still have it). I am using ID 18.2.1.455 on a Mac running Monterey 12.5.1. I have not recently updated my ID or OS. "Always save preview" has always been checked in my prefs and I've tried turning it off and back on, restarting the program, restarting my Mac (all the usual trouble shooting. Quite the mystery. I hope Adobe will address this!

SOLVED! Adobe has fixed this finally. Version 18.2.1. I just noticed it working now. Older documents that did not have a preview need to be opened and resaved. At lease that is what I have experienced.

Then you're lucky, it's still not working for me, I'm also working with the latest InDesign version. This has been going on for months now and I wonder when Adobe will finally fix it.

I had an update with plug-ins with Fonts Connect (AKA Suitcase). I noticed the preview right afterwards.

Glad that worked for you. I did the same, but preview still not working.

Not for me. The preview is only visible when no fonts are used in the document or only with very specific fonts.

Still not working for me either and I'm on the latest version of InDesign (18.2.1). Everthing about this bug seems random... sometimes preview shows, most of the time not. The first post about this was last December... I simply cannot believe Adobe has not fixed this yet!

Unfornunately I posted a fix earlier on this post. I had success for almost one whole week! then previews failed to show again. I rebuilt and reinstalled my font library and vault to eliminate the finger pointing. When I talked with Font's Connect, they assured me it wasnt their problem. Back to mediocracy again in the service departments and what to expect out of our software. ...Oh what's that? Did I hear Quark calling?

In fact, none of the finder views show a preview for indesign docs. Icon view, Gallery, List, Column...
I hope Adobe is listening

It's been a long time since this issue has been raised, it's certainly due to be fixed. Perhaps with the next major InDesign update. It gets more annoying as time goes on.

Hi @ftgben ,
InDesign 18.3 will be released soon, I think.
Let's hope that your issue is fixed with that version.
If you want to test InDesign 18.3 become a member of InDesign Prerelease.

Let's hope so. I would think Adobe would be listening to the designers that use their product and take the time to voice their opinions.

The 18.9 beta finally shows the preview, albeit an incredibly low-resolution preview. The speed at which this patch is being implemented is truly unremarkable.
