Adobe Indesign CS3 -- Activation problem

I'm having a problem re-activating my copy of Adobe Indesign CS3 following a move to another PC; getting the "no connection" message.

I had an on-line chat with support who directed me to a link whereby I could get a new serial no. and a new download of InDesign CS3.

I was told to uninstall my current copy, then reinstall using my new download and new serial no., after which I could activate.

I did all this but when it came to installing, there was no option to use my new serial no. Instead, on launching, it went straight to the activation screen telling me I now have four days left to activate!

The telephone option doesn't work any more but I checked there and noted my old serial no. is still there which seems to indicate it is permanently stored somewhere in the registry?

Any advice on how I can get round this problem, please?

After a further long on-line chat with support, I *think* it's solved. They directed me to a cache.db that needed to be deleted. I was then prompted for a new serial no. on starting up InDesign which was accepted.

I was expecting to see another activation request screen, but that didn't happen and there is no activate/deactivate facility in the Help menu where it usually lives.

So, hopefully that will be the end of the matter!

Nobody here can help with this and even if someone at Adobe can, they probably won't.

CS3 is the better part of 20 years old. Not what you want to hear, I'm sure, but that's pretty much the way it is.

Yes you are right, I am on my own given that my purchased InDesign no longer works.  On the upside it has prompted me to look for other packages less expensive than InDesign.  With minimal research I have found Microsoft Publisher, which I already have courtesy of Microsoft Office plus the free Scribus and a host of other packages, most cheaper than InDesign.  I feel re-invigorated.

Windows 10 and I have just seen the comment by Bob Levine saying CS3 is not supported by Windows 10.

Right. You're on your own. You can try running in Windows 7 compatibility mode, but beyond that, there's nothing else to offer as far as advice.

I have a problem installing a In Design CS3 replacement after downloading it. I have been given a new serial number but the installation by-passes the insert code screen.  I followed the suggestion of removing the cache.db file on the attached Adobe Support Community forum but can't find such a file, in fact there is no db files at all.  I have looked in every folder.  What do I do next?

I have indesign CS3 Ver. 5.0. It worked fine until the last update of Win 10. Now It asked me to activate.  If I install an older backup of Win 10 it works again. Can You please tell me which cache.db I have to delete for installing the new got Ser. Nr.

https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs3-product-downloads.html

Read this VERY CAREFULLY and make note that CS3 is not supported under Windows 10.

I Have read it very carefully and done it very carefully. I got a new Serial number  and run the recommended installation program.  After that I had the same result as before: old serial-number and order to activate!

in geoffl80469065 19.08.2017 05:37 was mentioned, that the support has directed to a cache.db. I would like to know, where I can find this file for deleting.. If there is a solution, why I shouldn't know it!!

This version of InDesign is 10 years old, it's possible you may have problems running it on your new computer. Which OS and version?

I'm using Windows 10, Derek, which I appreciate is probably not ideal for CS3. However, it worked fine on the old PC under the same system, until  an HD crash led me to reinstall it on this PC. Happily, the assistance from support seems to have done the trick, unless I suddenly get another activation request. At any rate I'm using it without a problem right now!

I would have upgraded but a monthly fee would not be cost-effective for an occasional user like me.
