Adobe InDesign file from 2013.
I wrote a book with illustrations in Adobe InDesign (20.20MG) in 2013. I was using a Mac.
I did not think the book had commercial value and decided to forget it.
I saved the book onto my external hard drive and still have the file.
The file icon appears as a black screen with the word exec written in green lower case letters, in the top right of the black screen.
I am now using a recent version of WORD on a new Mac computer.
I now want to open the InDesign File I created in 2013.
As I have now been informed the file has commercial value.
Today I copied the 2013 InDesign File to my desktop and clicked on it.
I am only interested in recovering the text in the file, not the illustrations.
A box appeared on my desktop. The Box said -
Convert files from - * Text Only *MS DOS Text Format *HTML Document *Single File Web Page or *Rich Text Format.
I have tried all 5 options.
Either the file opens and it's text pages are filled with small empty blank squares (no text) and a few random symbols here and there.
The image pages empty.
Or my current Word attempts to conver the file, then suddenly asks to Force Quit Word, because it cannot convert.
My question is - My husband has an old PC from 2012. It is in storage but still works. He has Word on the PC.
Is there a possibility that my InDesign file created in 2013 could be converted into WORD text on an old PC with an old version of WORD. As Adobe Word 2012 and Indesign 2012 may be compadable and able to convert text ?
I was using an old MAC when I created the InDesign File in 2013.
My husband has kept an old PC with Word 2012, that still works.
Can they talk to one another ?
Is there a chance I can convert the text from my 2013 InDesign File (MAC) into a 2012 Word Doc (PC) ?
Is this a crazy question ? Maybe I should just write my book again ?
Sorry for the long winded story. I'm not a tech person at all. So any advice is most appreciated.
Thank you.
