I keep receiving the following message at least once or twice every work day. "Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents" - Return to Finder. Usually I can restart InDesign. Other times I can't restart InDesign and I have to restart my computer. What is causing this message and for InDesign to keep crashing daily?
I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.4.
You have a serious corruption problem someplace, or a serious conflict with some other software that is running.
If this happens with more than one document, you can start with repalcing your preferences. See Replace Your Preferences
If it's isolated to a single document, see Remove minor corruption by exporting
Another very likey cause is a corrupt or poorly made font. Run a font utility to look for font problems.

What version of InDesign? Have you updated the latest patches in Help>Updates?
Have you reset indesign preferences? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990

If none of this helps, you may have to reinstall ID.

If you are working over the network it could just be network congestions. the combination of 10.6 and InDesign over the network is drastically more rickety than previous versions of Mac OS X.
If you are having trouble getting InDesign to fold over and relaunch you have some work to do. In 10.6 it should be able to quit without much issue or time involved.

I am using InDesign over the network. Our graphics department keep the files on a server, to allow others access to the files, backup purposes, so forth. This hasn't been the only message I have been receiving while using InDesign. Other error messages I have received almost daily :
1. "The application InDesign has unexpectedly quit." - Can restart the application and continue.
2. "Cannot open resource file" - Restart of computer fixes this problem.
3. "Cannot save the document. It may be opened by other applications. Close applications and try again. You may also use save as to save it into a new document." - Get this message even though it is not used by other applications. Unable to do the save as to the current location, but can save to a different location.

I'M having the same problem...
I think it is related to the user profile, and I don't know how to solve it yet. Maybe with this information, a mac geek could help us with this issue...
The reason why I say it is a user profile issue:
On my Mac OS X 10.7.2, I have 2 users with their own profile...
One of them has the problem exposed on this forum and the other one doesn't. That second user is able to use inDesign as with no problem at all.
Hoping this information could help me and other to solve this issue.

Did you try trashing the preferences for the user who has a problem? See Replace Your Preferences

I am having this problem as well - I just recently updated to the creative cloud. It always seems to be when I am working with tables. Originally I thought it was because I had opened an InDesign 6 document, but yesterday I started from scratch and it is still shutting down at least once an hour. Very frustrating. I have better luck by going back to InDesign 6.
