Adobe Type Kit for fonts

Hi,

Just a quick and hopefully simply question, I am trying to get type kit to show in insdesign (and other Adobe apps) as a plug in along the menu bar. I don't use indesign myself but I have a user who has requested it and previously had it showing there on another desktop but I haven't been able to find how to do this. We are able to login to the type kit web page fine but I can't find any add on or options to enable it to show in the menu bar within a creative cloud app.

Does anyone know what I've missed?

Thanks

Actually, you sort of already have one installed.

Go to your Control Panel, at the top of the document window just above the rulers by default, and click on your Type Tool. This activates the panel's type functions.

    1. At the far left you'll see two buttons: one with a capital "A" to emphasize the character functions, and one with a paragraph symbol, which prioritizes the paragraph functions. While your Typekit (old name)/Adobe Fonts (new name) features are available with either option, to make it easy on yourself click on the capital "A" button to prioritize the character functions. The option is also available from the paragraph functions, but it's easiest to see your options from the Control Panel character functions.
    2. Immediately to the right of the two buttons, click on the downward-pointing chevron to the right of the Font options box — the one which shows Minion Pro in the illustration below. This opens a list box which, by default, shows the fonts which are installed on the system.
    3. If you click on the cloud button with a check mark, the Show Activated Fonts button that I circled with red, it will set a filter which only shows the Adobe Fonts which are already available in the system. Clicking on the Find More option, the one I highlighted with the green box, allows you to choose more available Adobe Fonts online for use in your system.

Don't feel bad about not finding these things. They're buried pretty deep. I wouldn't have known this to share with you if I hadn't had a client ask me the very same thing a couple of months ago. I spent a half a day buried in the help files before I found this listed in an old new feature release document. This option was first introduced in the CC2018 version of InDesign.

    Hope this helps,

One more thing: Clicking the Show Activated Fonts filter button hides any and all fonts you actually have installed on your system, rather than just those shared through Adobe Fonts. To get access to the fonts you actually have on your system back, just click on the button again so the filter is de-selected and you'll find all your fonts available again.
