Question

Apple M2 chip running Ventura

I'm ready to buy a new laptop whose primary purpose will be running several of the Adobe Creative Cloud apps.

I'm looking at the MacBook Pro 14" with Ventura. I would have gone with the M1 chip, but that option is no longer available.

Will I have problems with Adobe on a new machine with the M2 chip and running Ventura?

I will be using InDesign, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver and not doing anything particularly complicated--mostly typesetting paperbacks and preparing images for books and ebooks.

Is it OK to buy now, or should I wait until Adobe does a few more updates?

There shouldn’t be any problems specific to the M2 processor, at least I haven’t been aware of any on the InDesign forum. It isn’t much different than the M1.

Every year when Apple rolls out a new major version of macOS, there can be issues at first, which go away as Apple and Adobe release updates to the new OS. Adobe has an article about Ventura compatibility issues, and right now there are no known issues listed for InDesign although there are for some other applications. Here is the link to the article:

Can I run my Adobe apps in macOS 13 Ventura?

For the purposes you mentioned, you will probably be fine with the base 14" MacBook Pro with the M2 Pro processor. The applications you listed probably will not benefit much from a more expensive processor option. For the past year, I have been happy with the same model with the M1 Pro processor, although mine is still on macOS 12.

There IS a problem with Adobe and the M2 chip. The problem I'm experiencing is with Bridge in that the Photo Downloader does not work at all. The workaround is to us "import from device".

I'm pretty sure you'll have no problem.

I have exactly those specs (MBP 2021 with Ventura 13.1) but with the M1 chip. I have no problems at all. M2 will just be faster.
