Arbitrary mask issue

Hi!

Currently working on a fillable form in inDesign. We´ve coded nearly everything in inDesign, but had to do it manually for two text fields using prepare form > … arbitrary mask.

When typing into the field, the user should get XXX XXX XXX with automatic spacing. This works fine on our mac and some PCs using the same reader as them – the adobe assistant we talked to didn´t have any problems either.. However, when our client tries, they get XXXXXXXXXXX (space converted to number) and an error when finished (see attached image "error").

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any solutions or is it some kind of bug/only solved with scripts…?

Do you know which PDF viewer your client used?

I suppose that he is not using Adobe Acrobat.  But ALL OTHER viewers lack of full functional support. Advice your client to use Adobe Acrobat.

Microsoft Edge! Yes, it seems like we can´t do much about it other than recommending changing their standard reader?

Or...create a proper form on their website or use a Google Form.

If you're expecting this to work on all PDF reader apps, browsers, and mobile devices, you might just as well give up now. If you want better guidance on it, you might want to pop over to the Acrobat forum. There's nothing you can do in InDesign.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
