Question

Auto Hyphen Changed to Longer Hyphen? (No ~ Hidden Character)

Hi everyone,

I have an InDesign 2017 document where the automatic hyphens have changed between two passes of editing. The picture below is from the first iteration of the document and it has the typical auto hyphen with the hidden tides above the hyphen.

The second picture is the same document and same paragraph, but the file has been saved and renamed. The hyphens are slightly longer and the hidden characters are missing. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? It's not a manually inserted hyphen and I can't select it. If I flush out the kearning, the hyphen disappears so it's still an automatic hyphen.

Hi,

can you show a screenshot of the frame where you show it with the Story Editor frame ( hidden characters showing as well )?

This is really a strange issue. The appearance of automatic hyphens should not change. Even between versions of InDesign.

Uwe

Did you save it in a new version of InDesign? The text engines do change from one version to another so if you did any editing, this would be expected.

It's only been opened in CC 2017 about two weeks apart (if that's helpful at all). Other documents still have the traditional auto hyphen hidden character, so I don't think it's a preference setting. I'm really just out of ideas.

But what version created it?
