Auto-naming of pdf as file name

Each time I create a pdf for the first time from an Indesign file, I have to type in the name of the file. Is it possible to set a preference so that the pdf automatically names itself as the InDesign file name?

That’s exactly what it should be doing. However, if you previously named the PDF and did a save as, the PDF file name will come along for the ride.

    Hi Design Stream ,

I appreciate your patience. I conducted testing using InDesign 18.5 and macOS Ventura, and I can confirm that the solution is effective. When you choose to export a PDF, within the Outcome dialog window, you have the option to deselect the "use file name" option before proceeding with the export. By doing this, the next time you export the same file, it will retain the name that was previously used.

Okay, that makes sense—now I understand what is happening. The reason it's not renaming the file is that I am using a template and the pdf picks up the name of the template instead of the new file name. Thanks.
