Hey team,

I have noticed a strange thing in InDesign, EAN 13 Barcode I have copied from Illustrator and pasted it into InDesign, while copying and pasting one line is missing in the barcode in InDesign. I verified the barcode in Barcode Scanner mobile app, because I don’t have access to the Axicon Barcode verifier. It was successfully read and I got the number also.

This is a huge loss for us due to it was printed, when the customer scanned it with the Axicon barcode verifier he unable to read the barcode.

Please let me know where the issue is happening.

Hi Jagadeesh 598,

will this also happen, if you place the barcode as .ai?

I got aware, that such things happen when you copy & paste Illu-graphics into InDesign but are absolutly fine when you place them correctly.

Correctly means, I didn't get your point, what it means?

Place the ai-file instead of copy & paste elements from Illu to InDesign.

Hi Jagadeesh@Strides :

As per Jens, you want to use File > Place and not Edit > Paste to add Illustrator files to InDesign. In addition, InDesign has frame fitting controls. You need to ensure that the entire graphic fits in the frame. I'm guessing the image size to frame size aspect ratio was off, resulting in InDesign cropping the bar code.

Copying and pasting was done incorrectly and missed a line.

Far better off using File>Place and place the illustrator file.
